The Craziest Single-Game NBA Records

The NBA has been around for over 75 years now, and lots of records have been created and broken. Here are some of the craziest single-game records in NBA history:

1. Wilt Chamberlain's 100-Point Game

On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain scored a crazy record-breaking 100 points against the New York Knicks.

In this game, Chamberlain made 36 out of his 63 shot attempts (57.1%) and 28 out of his 32 free throw attempts (87.5%)

This is considered one of the greatest records in NBA and sports history.

The closest any other player has come to this record is when Kobe Bryant scored 81 Points against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

There is no video evidence of Chamberlain's record-breaking game because games weren't often recorded back then. However, there is audio of the radio broadcast which you can

listen to by clicking here.

2. Scott Skiles - 30 Assist Game

On December 30, 1990, Orlando Magic point guard Scott Skiles recorded an impressive 30 Assists in the team's win over the Denver Nuggets.

He also had 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.

You can watch a compilation of his assists in this game by clicking here.

In his 10-season career, Scott Skiles averaged 11.1 Points, 6.5 Assists, and 2.5 Rebounds.

He went on to coach multiple teams and eventually become head coach of the Orlando Magic in 2015, but then retire in 2016.

3. Dwight Howard - 39 Free Throw Attempts

On January 12, 2012: Dwight Howard attempted 39 free throws in a game against the Warriors.

He made 21 out of his 39 attempts (53.8%)

It was most likely part of the Warrior's strategy to purposefully foul Dwight Howard because he was known to not be a great free throw shooter (56.7% in his career)

The next year, on March 12, he matched his own record shooting 39 free throws in a game again, this time making an improved 64% of them.

4. Klay Thompson - 37 Points in a Quarter

On January 23, 2015, Klay Thompson scored a record-breaking 37 points in a quarter against the Sacramento Kings.

In the 3rd quarter, Thompson made all 13 of his shot attempts, including 9 three-pointers.

(this is also the record for most 3-pointers in a quarter)

He ended the game with 52 points while making 64% of his shots.

5. Dale Ellis - 69 Minutes Played

On November 9, 1989, Dale Ellis played for 69 minutes in a game against the Bucks.

A normal NBA game consists of 4 quarters that last 12 minutes each. However, this game went into 5x overtime, which added an additional 25 minutes, making the game 73 minutes in total.

Dale Ellis played in all but 4 minutes of this very long game, which is how he now holds the record for most minutes played in a game.

He ended the game with 53 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 8 Turnovers. The Bucks ended up winning this game.
