Some Free Agency News

Here are some things that have happened during NBA free agency so far:

New Signings:

Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul

Chris Paul Signs with the Spurs!

After being waived by the Warriors, 12x NBA All-Star, Chris Paul has signed with the San Antonio Spurs. He is signing a one-year $11 million deal with the team. Recently Spurs players have been criticized for not passing enough to their best player Victor Wembanyama. Luckily for Wembanyama, Chris Paul is one of the best passers in the NBA, so hopefully they will make a good duo.

Paul George Signs with the 76ers!

9x NBA All-Star Paul George is leaving the Clippers and signing a four-year, $212 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.

He played very well last season averaging 23 Points, 5 Rebounds, 4 Assists, and 2 Steals, while making 47% of his shots.

He will now be paired up with All-Stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey which could make up a really good trio.

Isaiah Hartenstein signs with the Thunder!

Isaiah Hartenstein is signing a three-year $87 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Knicks are very disappointed to lose him as he proved to be a really great rebounder, defender, and passer, who was also able to score in the paint. Hartenstein proved just how good he is when Mitchell Robinson got injured and he stepped up and played great as a starter.

Hartenstein ended up signing with the Thunder because he got a much better contract from them than he would have been able to get from the Knicks.

Tobias Harris Signs with the Pistons

Tobias Harris is signing a two-year, $52 million contract with the Detroit Pistons. He was a solid contributor to the 76ers last season averaging 17 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 3 Assists, while making 49% of his shots. Hopefully, Tobias Harris can help improve the Pistons who are currently the worst team in the NBA.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Signs with the Magic

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is leaving the Denver Nuggets and signing with the Orlando Magic on a three-year $66 million deal. Caldwell-Pope won a championship with the Nuggets in 2023 but decided to join the Magic to get a better contract.

Jonas Valanciunas

Jonas Valanciunas Signs with the Wizards

Jonas Valanciunas is signing a three-year $30 million deal with the Washington Wizards. Last season he played for the Pelicans and was a solid contributor to the team. He averaged 12 Points, 9 Rebounds and 2 Assists, while making 56% of his shots.

Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond Signs with the 76ers

Andre Drummond is signing a two-year $10 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. Andre Drummond is a 2x All-Star but has not been as great in recent years and has been getting less playing time. Last season for the Bulls he averaged 8 Points, and 9 Rebounds, making 56% of his shots.

Re-Signings/Extensions:

Tyrese Maxey Extension

NBA All-Star Tyrese Maxey has agreed to a five-year, $204 million contract extension. Tyrese Maxey played very well last season averaging 26 Points, 6 Assists, and 4 Rebounds, while making 45% of his shots. The team is definitely happy to keep him.

James Harden

James Harden Returns to the Clippers

10x NBA All-Star, James Harden is signing a two-year $70 million contract to return to the Los Angeles Clippers. Harden was not an All-Star last season but was still a solid contributor to his team averaging 17 Points, 9 Assists, 5 Rebounds, and 1 steal.

Obi Toppin

Obi Toppin Returns to the Pacers

Obi Toppin is signing a four-year, $60 million contract to stay with the Indiana Pacers. Last season Toppin was one of the team's better bench players, averaging 10 Points, 4 Rebounds, and 2 Assists, making 57% of his shots.

Cade Cunningham

Cade Cunningham Extension

The Detroit Pistons are signing Cade Cunningham to a five-year, $226 million extension. Cunningham is easily the best player on his team averaging 23 Points, 8 Assists, 4 Rebounds, and 1 Steal. Unfortunately for him, his team still ended last season with the worst record in the entire NBA.

Kevin Love

Kevin Love Returns to the Heat

Kevin Love is signing a two-year, $8 million deal to return to the Miami Heat. Kevin Love gets much less playing time than he did many years ago, but he still has some good contributions coming off the bench for the team.
