Should Jalen Brunson Have Been an All-Star?

Updated: Apr 17, 2023

Jalen Brunson was on a hot streak leading up to the NBA All-Star Game but was not selected to participate.

Jalen Brunson has been exactly what the Knicks have needed after missing the playoffs in the 2021-22 season.

Last season the Knicks ended with a record of 37-45. After signing Brunson at the start of this season they already have an improved record of 42-30 and still have 10 games remaining.

Jalen Brunson is currently having the best season of his career, averaging an excellent 23.8 Points, 6.1 Assists, and 4 Rebounds. He is making a solid 49% of his shots, and 44% of his 3-point attempts.

In terms of being an all-star Jalen Brunson definitely had the stats to be an all-star, but there were also so many deserving players this season.

There are a few players that I believe Brunson arguably could have been an all-star over:

Jrue Holiday of the Milwaukee Bucks - Jrue Holiday averages 5 points less than Brunson on less efficient shooting, although he is a better defender and averages 1 more rebound per game.

Jaren Jackson JR of the Memphis Grizzlies - Jaren Jackson JR is amazing on defense but averages 7 points less and 5.3 assists less than Brunson per game.

Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat - Adebayo averages 5 rebounds per game more than Brunson, but Brunson averages 3 more points and 3 more assists.

Although he was not named an all-star, Jalen Brunson has been one of the best additions to the Knicks in a long time and continues to prove himself as an all-star level player.
