RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley were Traded to the Toronto Raptors!

OG Anunoby was just traded to the New York Knicks in a deal that sent RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Toronto Raptors.

Full trade details:

Knicks Recieve:

  • OG Anunoby

  • Precious Achiuwa

  • Malachi Flynn

Raptors Recieve:

  • RJ Barrett

  • Immanuel Quickley

  • 2024 second-round draft pick

OG Anunoby:

OG Anunoby is a solid pickup for the Knicks. The Knicks have been lacking defense, especially with the absence of Mitchell Robinson. Anunoby is a very good defensive player, making an all-NBA defensive team last season. He is also a pretty well-rounded player overall averaging 15 Points, 4 Rebounds, 3 Assists, and 1 steal while making almost 50% of his shots.

However, he becomes a free agent this summer, so the Knicks technically aren't even guaranteed to still have him next season if he chooses to sign with a different team.

RJ Barrett:

RJ Barrett was drafted #3 overall by the Knicks in 2019, and was a pretty decent player for the Knicks, averaging 18 Points, 4 Rebounds, and 2 Assists so far this season. However, throughout his career with the Knicks, he has not improved that much and has proven to be inconsistent. Being traded to the Raptors sends him back to play for his hometown in Toronto.

Immanuel Quickley:

The Knicks will certainly miss Immanuel Quickley. He was the team's best player off the bench and was one of the best 6th men in the whole league, being runner-up for 6th man of the year last season. He averaged 15 points, 3 Rebounds, and 3 Assists in 24 minutes off the bench. The Knicks now don't have that great of a bench, as Quickley was the main source of offense for the bench unit.

Hopefully, this trade works out for both teams, but we will have to see how well these players fit into their new roles on their new teams.

As for the Knicks, they could still be working towards recruiting a star player. They still have up to 8 tradeable first-round picks in next year's draft, which they are likely more than willing to include in a trade package. It would be hard to acquire a star player with only draft picks, so they would likely need to include someone like Evan Fournier and a good player such as Quentin Grimes if he can continue to improve and up his trade value.
