In a very surprising trade, Karl-Anthony Towns was traded to the Knicks this past offseason. Here is a bit about him and how well he is playing this season:
Early Career:
Karl-Anthony Towns attended and played at the University of Kentucky, where he helped lead the team to the Final Four in his freshman year.
He was then drafted first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2015 NBA draft. In his first year in the league, He immediately proved how good of a player he was. In his rookie season, He averaged 18 Points, 10 Rebounds, 2 Assists, and 2 Blocks on 54% Shooting, which led him to winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award.
Throughout his 9 years with the Timberwolves, Towns quickly proved himself as one of the great players in the NBA, being named an All-Star 4 times.
One impressive thing about Towns is the different ways he can score and fit into a team. Of course, being a 7-foot-tall center, he is really good at scoring close to the basket, but what sets him apart from other players of his position is his 3-point shooting. Town is arguably the greatest 3-point-shooting big man in NBA history. He even won the 3-point contest in 2022.
Knicks:
This past offseason, just a week before training camps started, Towns was traded to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
After hearing about this trade many fans were not very happy. With Randle being a 3x All-Star with the team, and DiVincenzo being an amazing shooter breaking many records with the team, Towns had a lot to live up to to make the trade worth it. However, so far this season he may just be on track to do so.
Towns is playing amazing for the Knicks so far this season averaging:
26.8 Points
12.2 Rebounds
2.9 Assists
55.1% of shots made
50% of three-pointers made
We are still pretty early into the season, so it's hard to tell just how much better Towns will make the team overall, but so far he is playing amazing so it will be interesting to see if the team can do even better than last season.
