Player Spotlight: Jalen Brunson

Updated: Apr 15

Jalen Brunson has been incredible this season. He was named an NBA All-Star for the first time and has led his team to a spot in the playoffs as well as the team's best record in 10 years.

History

Jalen Brunson attended college and played at Villanova where he won 2 national championships. While playing at Villanova he was also named National Player of the Year, First Team All-American, Big East Player of the Year, and college basketball player of the decade.

Brunson was then drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2nd round, 3rd pick, 33rd overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. He played 4 years with the Mavericks as a backup point guard to Luka Doncic. On July 12, 2022, he signed with the New York Knicks, and he has been one of the best things to happen to the team in a very long time.

Stats

This season Brunson is averaging a very impressive:

28.6 Points

6.7 Assists

3.6 Rebounds

1 Steal

48% of shots made

While these stats are amazing, Brunson has managed to play even better recently!

In his last 10 games, Brunson is averaging an insane:

36.4 Points

8.3 Assists

3.2 Rebounds

1 Steal

50.2% of shots made

Accomplishments

Jalen Brunson is easily one of the greatest Knicks in a very long time and he has already done so much.

Just this season Brunson has accomplished all of the following:

  • NBA All-Star

  • 4x Player of the Week

  • 1x Player of the Month

  • 4th in total points scored

  • 13th in total assists

  • Most 30+ point games by a Knick in a single season (36)

  • 2ns most 40+ point games by a Knick in a single season (13)

  • 2nd most points ever scored by a Knick in a game (61)

  • The first-ever player to score 30+ points in a half without a miss

  • The most 3-pointers ever made in a game without a miss (9)

  • The first-ever player to ever score 50+ points, 5+ Assists, 5+ rebounds, 5+ steals, and 5+ 3-pointers in a single game

  • 1 of 4 Knicks ever to have multiple 50+ point games in a season

All-NBA

Jalen Brunson will not win MVP this season but he should easily be considered top 10 in that conversation. NBA.com has Brunson as 8th on their final MVP ladder.

Brunson was an All-Star this season and will very likely make an All-NBA team. (All-NBA is a much more valued award because there are only 15 spots instead of 24, and it is not influenced by fan voting)

In conclusion, Jalen Brunson is VERY good.
