Player Spotlight: Donte DiVincenzo

Updated: May 12

On July 8, 2023, DiVincenzo signed with the New York Knicks, on a four-year, $50 million deal.

Joining the Knicks reunited him with college teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, who all won the NCAA championship together at Villanova in 2016.

History:

DiVincenzo was drafted 17th in the 2018 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He was a part of the Bucks 2021 championship team, although he did not play at all after the first round of the playoffs due to an ankle injury.

He was then briefly traded to the Sacramento Kings, before signing with the Golden State Warriors for the 2022-23 Season.

After playing with the Warriors for a year, he decided to sign with the Knicks, which also got him a way better contract.

Randle and OG Injury:

Julius Randle (one of the Knicks' top scorers), and OG Anunoby (one of the Knicks' best defenders and 3-point shooters), both got injured on January 27th, which of course had a big impact on the team.

Since these injuries, Donte DiVincenzo has had the chance to contribute a lot more to the team's scoring, and he has certainly not disappointed, being a big factor in the team's overall success since.

This season before Randle and OG's injuries, DiVincenzo was averaging 11.4 Points, 3.2 Rebounds, and 2.2 Assists.

In the 17 games since Randle and OG's injuries, DiVincenzo is averaging 21.4 Points, 4.4 Rebounds, and 3.6 Assists.

The Knicks have a losing record of 9 wins and 10 losses since Anonuby and Randle have been out so the team is definitely looking forward to their return. There is a chance OG Anunoby will return tonight (March 12th) against the Philadelphia 76ers.

3-Point Shooting:

DiVincenzo is an all-around great player for the Knicks. He is an amazing defender, but what really stands out in his offense is his 3-point shooting.

DiVincenzo currently has the 3rd most 3-pointers made in the entire NBA, only behind Steph Curry and Luka Doncic.

Additionally, he is currently 4th in most made 3's by a Knick in a single season (203). With 18 games remaining, he has a very good chance of breaking Evan Fournier's Knick record of 241 3's made in a season.

Update May 10th, 2024: The Knicks are now in the second round of the playoffs against the Indiana Pacers and DiVincenzo has had some strong contributions so far in the playoffs. In this series he is averaging almost 30 points a game! He has also hit multiple clutch 3-pointers, including this huge game-winning shot in game 2 against the 76ers:
