In honor of Thanksgiving let's take a look at some NBA players who give back to the community through their own charities:
LeBron James - The LeBron James Family Foundation
Lebron James is involved in a number of different charitable activities through the LeBron James Family Foundation. This foundation focuses on education and has done things such as creating the "I PROMISE School" in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The school is completely free and is aimed at at-risk students who are falling behind in their education. The school also provides other additional support to students including food, family support, transportation, and housing. Additionally, graduating students are guaranteed tuition-free college.
Steph Curry - Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation
Steph Curry's Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation supports programs that provide meals for children in need, provides educational resources to schools, and creates events and play spaces to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. Since starting, the foundation has raised over $47 million to serve Oakland kids and families, including delivering more than 25 million meals, investing $6 million+ in tutoring/reading programs, renovating 11 school and community play spaces, and more.
Russell Westbrook - Why Not? Foundation
Russel Westbrook's Why Not? Foundation works to improve access to quality education, address social justice issues, and improve the lives of kids and young adults overall. The foundation has created the Why Not? middle and high school, created their own tech program to provide job skills and digital training, donated over 1,000 laptops during the pandemic to allow students to continue their education virtually, and more.
Chris Paul - The Chris Paul Family Foundation
The Chris Paul Family Foundation runs all sorts of programs, one being Club 61. Club 61 is a program that teaches students about leadership, networking, technology, finances, health and wellness, and more. They have also done lots of work in the community, such as renovating schools, running food drives, hosting shopping sprees, and more.
