Jaylen Brown has just signed a 5 year, $304 million supermax contract extension with the Boston Celtics. This is about $60.8 million per season, making it the largest contract in NBA history.
He become eligible for this supermax extension after being named All-NBA 2nd team last season.
Before now, the largest contract was held by Nikola Jokic who is receiving $270,000,000 over 5 years. ($54M per season)
Brown will receive $31.8 million next season. He will then recieve $52.3 million the first year of this extension, which will increase each year. In the last year of this contract (2028-2029 season) he will make nearly $70 million.
This past season Jaylen Brown averaged a career-high 26.6 Points, 6.9 Rebounds, and 3.5 Assists, while making about 50% of his shots.
He was also and all-star for the 2nd time and helped lead his team to the conference finals.
Jaylen Browns teammate, Jayson Tatum, will also become eligible for a supermax extension next season, which could be worth even more than his.
Overall, The Celtics have done a good amount this offseason. Earlier this summer, they traded away former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies, and received All-Star Kristaps Porzingis.
They also traded Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks and received three future second-round picks.
The Celtics were already a very good team, so it will be interesting to see how things change with the changes in their roster.
