Damian Lillard just won the 2024 NBA 3-Point contest.
Damian Lillard won his first 3-point contest last year, beating Buddy Hield by one shot, to become the first Trailblazer ever to win the 3-point contest.
This year, Damian Lillard decided to participate in the contest again, to defend his title.
He went in as the favorite to win the contest, and not too surprisingly he did just that. The first round ended up in a 3-way tie at 26 points, between him, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Trae Young.
He then ended up winning after scoring 26 more points in the final round! He has now won 2 out of the 4 times that he has been in this contest.
The other contestants were:
Tyrese Haliburton
Damian Lillard is considered one of the greatest 3-point shooters ever, having the 5th most made 3's ever and being known for his clutch shots. However, this season Lillard is actually shooting very badly on his 3-point shots, having made only 29% of his attempts so far in 2024. (worst percentage out of all 3-point contest participants)
This season, he was also named an all-star starter for the first time in his career, which is very strange considering it is statistically one of his worst seasons in a while.
This season Lillard is averaging:
24.6 Points
6.7 Assists
4.1 Rebounds
42.3% of shots made
(These stats are still really good, just not as good as some of his previous seasons.)
Damian Lillard was the best player on the Portland Trailblazers for 11 years, but the rest of his team was never very good so he never won the Finals and has only made it to the conference finals once. Now that he is on the Milwaukee Bucks he has a much better chance of winning a championship, so we'll see if he can finally at least make the finals for the first time.
Lillard will also be playing in the 73rd annual NBA All-Star Game tomorrow at 8 PM EST
